The Year-Round Gift: 10 Reasons I'm Thankful To Be... →
Yes, yes and yes. So many of these apply, but this is my favorite. Having something absolute and unquestionable. There’s nothing I wouldn’t do, nothing I wouldn’t sacrifice for my daughter. The experience of unconditional love — it’s what true faith must feel like, and I’m grateful to feel it, even though it’s terrifying when I stop and realize that the biggest,...

Christmas always excites me. But it being Rosemary’s first Christmas, I am filled with a renewed childlike wonder. Everything is so magical for kids during this time of year. I know she won’t know what’s going on yet, but I do! I have had my Christmas stocking for as long as I can remember. It’s green, and it has a cat with a rainbow bow on it, and it has my name in...

Holy moly, it’s snowing outside! And even accumulating a little bit. It’s so cold out, I can’t even believe it. I bought Rosemary a couple of different winter options, as we take lots of walks with the dog at home. I am not sure which one to keep and which to return. I really like the one-piece option and it was what I was originally looking for, but the coat came with some...

We journeyed to the U-District today. Rosemary was such a good baby the whole day and even slept both ways in the car. First we hit up the Friends of the Library book sale, which Rosemary slept through. I snapped a shot of the checkout line. Rosemary got an Elmo’s Bedtime DVD for a $1. And also a book called “Private I. Guana: The Case of the Missing Chameleon,” and...

Classic “baby party,” as my grandpa would call it. We got together today with some old friends. Mallory and Rosemary were born just a few weeks apart (they were actually due just a few days apart, but Rosemary didn’t make an appearance until much later), so it was fun to see them interact. Rosemary’s a chunker and Mallory’s tall. They both enjoy kicking, making...

Rosemary can be fast asleep in her car seat, but the second you walk into a restaurant with her, the eyes usually pop open and she gets super interested in anything and everything (hope you don’t mind that my child is standing on the table, Olive Garden employees). She’s so grabby lately, and she’s getting much more coordinated with her hands. Everything takes a direct path...

The adventures of Rosemary and Grandpa Dan have been as follows. Thanks, but babies do not eat waffles. ‘Specially while sleeping. (But mmmm waffles! American deliciousness!) Taking in her first Seahawks game. I think we have a fan for life.

My grandpa can be a bit out of it—he’s got pretty severe dementia and a host of other health problems, unfortunately. He can also be a real grumpy old man iat times. But ever since Rosemary was born, he’s been super interested in his great granddaughter. He’s not entirely aware that she is his great granddaughter, but he knows she’s related to him, and my mom...

Well we made it to Seattle last night. There were four other babies on the plane. And mine was the best behaved by far! Me, Rosemary, and another mom (whose name happened to be Rosemary) and her baby shared a row of three seats in the middle. And there was a 19-year-old girl smack dab in the middle of us. How fun for that girl. She was actually really pleasant and took a “giant sleeping...

Kiddo, you’re 15 weeks old today! It’s getting kind of ridiculous to keep counting in weeks, but my, how time is flying. We’re busy getting ready for your first plane ride, and spending some quality time with your daddy-o before we go. You’re so cute these days, I could just eat your chunker cheeks for lunch.

In the interest of gaining more readers (and hey, I wouldn’t mind the iPad prize, either), it would be fantastic if you could head over the The Bump and nominate In Nine Months for the Mommy Blog awards. Please give me a shout out in the “Baby Journal Blog” category. Thank you, thank you!

The wake-up process is so tough! Rosemary falls asleep in her car seat all of the time. I will let her sleep in there, but after a while, I feel like I need to get her out. She always gets quite warm in (her mullet gets sweaty). And I especially get anxious if I know she has to go back in the car seat later to go somewhere again. Often, just unhooking the straps is enough for her to wake...

I am always going on about how much the dog smells. Even after she’s just had a bath, she smells doggy. I have been known to put a little  baby powder and lotion on her. Or give her a quick spritz of Bath and Body Works body splash. Andrew’s always laughing at me. But today, he got this spray as a sample from work. It’s called Stink Bomb—a Refreshing Dog Spray...

Oh, look what was on my freaking car when I got back to the parking garage this afternoon. Why did I get a £50 parking ticket when I was parked in a marked bay, with a paid parking sticker valid for another two hours clearly visible on my dash? Your guess is as good as mine. I’m royally miffed about it. Literally no reason for this, except the officer must’ve been legally blind. Now...

If you don't mind me asking, how long were you and your husband ttc before you got pregnant?

Andrew got these for Rosemary today. We were getting her bath time ready and he went, “Oh! Just a second,” and ran downstairs to get them out of his bag. They combine her two greatest passions: rubber ducks and space travel. (She is totally mesmerized by “The Rubber Ducky Song” from Sesame Street). She loves bath time sooo much. And look how big she’s getting...

R-Dawg’s getting better at tummy time. She makes all kind of grunting noises to prop herself up this high, and she usually needs a good nap after 10 minutes of this. It’s obviously quite a workout, as she uses her back legs to counterbalance herself into a canoe shape. She also gets pretty frustrated at her lack of mobility. If I put my leg so it’s touching her feet, she...

She falls asleep in my arms and I wait until she’s deeply asleep. A good test is whether I can unfold her tiny fingers without her caring. But then I lay her down in her crib, and then bam…this happens. Poor awake baby!
