We’re in America’s heartland. That’s an enormous catfish. My child in a camo hat. Some kind of bagged deer attractant called “Acorn Rage.” Now that I’ve been in England for quite a while, it always feels strange coming back to the US. I am not British, but I do not feel American anymore. I long for crunchy dill pickles (and we totally had some today!)...

We finally got were we were trying to get, and we finally had Christmas. I’m still in a jetlaggy haze, but the past couple of days have been full of family, presents, food, and lots of love for Rosemary. She’s been a real trooper, despite refusing to nap, continued teething, and being passed around and around.  Grandma and Grandpa L got her a jungle bouncer which she’s been...

Happy Christmas, my sweet-potato-eating, smiley, sitting-up-alone, wiggly, girl. Not only is it Christmas, but you are five months old today! You are getting so big and changing so fast, it’s hard to believe you were born just a few months ago. I hope you enjoy your presents, and at the very least, I know you’ll enjoy the wrapping paper. Love you, kiddo, Your mom

Christmas Eve! Probably my favorite day of the year. Santa won’t be coming until Sunday, for us, because that is the first day we’ll wake up in the States, where Rosemary’s presents are. Fortunately, my child is too young to know about Father Christmas and her favorite toy is a giant plastic cup from Target that cost 99 cents. Easy to please. I don’t know how this...

Kid, you are the Amelia Earhart of babies. An aviatrix of tot antics. You just want to go and do and move and be up higher. You are not one for a cuddle when there is my hair right there for you to grab, my legs for you to stand on, my chest to push off of or a cup within reach to investigate and knock over. And do you know how hard it is to change your diaper or dress you these days? You...

Christmas… Here’s what Rosemary has to say about things: “Whoa whoa whoa, there’s a dude in a red suit about to come down the chimney?” “Oh! He’s bringing preeeesents?!?

A few snapshots from today. It snowed. Probably like 7 inches. In about three hours. It was coming down crazily. We had cocoa and toast and watched it fall and blanket the house and yard. And we took a walk (some of us a shorter walk than others). And we napped (some of us did not). And since some of us weren’t napping, we made sugar cookies, which ended up taking forever because...

Last year, for Andrew’s birthday, we were in Iceland. So this year was mellow in comparison. Rosemary loved to watch me blowing up blue balloons, which are now floating all over the house. I made Andrew wear a “Birthday Boy” badge long enough for a picture after he got home from work. We went out for sushi, where for a while, we were the only ones in the restaurant. The...

(Rosemary got a pirate eye patch in her Christmas cracker; Five mommas and the babies; All five kiddos—Ella, Logan, Ava, Rosemary, and Sebastian; A group shot.) We got together today with friends from our NCT group for Christmas lunch (can’t ever pass up sticky toffee pudding). All of our babies were born within the span of two months, so they’re very close in age. We...

Rosemary’s 20 weeks old today. I thought I’d take a picture in just a white onesie this week, so you can see how chunky she is. Also, I think all babies look like little body builders or something when you put them in just a onesie. The kiddo’s just a little over 15 pounds now, which puts her in the 65th percentile for her age. When she was born, she was in the 9th...

We are having issues with our boiler. And an engineer has been out two days in a row, replacing thermostats and testing this and that up in the loft. It’s a mess. But luckily we still have hot water and heat, because, it’s so cold outside.  Whenever the engineer is here, I have to wrangle with the above. Rosemary needs to be entertained and the dog wants to investigate who the hell...

“We’re gonna need to change the sheets…”
– Andrew, walking in with the baby while I’m taking a bath. Apparently naked kicking time on the bed turned into this. Even though there was a towel under her.

Dear baby girl, You’re 19 weeks old today. And wearing your guinea pig sweater. It’s so funny, as I remember buying it last March, and thinking it looked huge. But it fits perfectly. This was probably the most trying week of your life thus far, for you and for your momma. You turned into a baby grizzly bear who won’t sleep at night. I feel so bad for you and I’m sorry...

Reindeer parade! Today we packed the high street to watch Father Christmas come to town with his reindeer. It was the most crowded I’ve ever seen the downtown area, with about a million kids bundled up and jacked up on candy canes and, well, the magic of Christmas. It ended up being a fantastic baby activity, however, because the “parade” simply consisted of a tiny marching...

We got a tree last night (braved the freezing cold weather and snow we are having to trek to B&Q),  and brought it home and dug out the stand and the box of ornaments. I have some old favorites—a pickle, a goldfish, a disco ball, a pink wooden ornament from my very first Christmas. And some new ones this year—a glass bucket of popcorn I got in Seattle for Andrew, a handprint of...

Rosemary is four months old! Excuse the lateness. She’s four months old…six days ago. This last Sunday marked 18 weeks since her birth. Just be lucky I am getting it up at all. She’s turning into such a busy body, that I never have my hands free. All she wants to do is sit and stand. And certainly not sleep. There’s teeth making there way in. Her cheeks are always...
