“Do you think we should get some adult cereal? We have Frosties and Cocoa Pops at...”
– Me during a shopping trip last night to get stuff for our Belgian friends who are visiting today. We got some Mini Wheats, in the end. What can I say? The whole time I’ve been pregnant, I’ve eaten an inordinate amount of kiddie cereal

It's a mess...
I am getting super antsy. I don’t know if it’s nesting or what, but our house is driving me bonkers. Due to working probably 55 hours a week each, our place is never exactly “tidy,” but it’s never annoyed me as much as it is right now. I spent an hour last night vacuuming one of the sofas, and it’s still got a ton of (seemingly immovable) dog fur on it. And I...

Andrew's guest blog
Special blog today…the baby daddy! “Don’t be stupid!,” Katy said to me.  Ok, I’ll try not to be.  I have volunteered to guest blog tonight.  Katy is sore and tired.  We went to see Flight of the Conchords last night at the Hammersmith Apollo in London.  It was a very fun concert, but I’m sure the seats weren’t the most comfortable for Katy.  We were 3...

Awkward conversations with my boss
Boss: You're suddenly looking more obvious. What are you doing, wearing different clothes or something?
Me: No, no. As time passes, I am just becoming increasingly...more pregnant.

“Can we just cover it with a plastic garbage bag?”
– Andrew’s idea for a waterproof mattress protector for our moses basket (…and he wasn’t joking)

Top 10 things I learned at the NCT baby class
1) Avoid forceps (they didn’t tell any horror stories or anything, but man these things freak me out) 2) It is not uncommon when you call the labor ward and are in early labor for them to tell you to “have a glass of wine and a bath and call us when your contractions are 5 minutes apart.”  3) I’d personally really like to avoid being induced, as this seems to set off a...

The Best – and Worst – Places To Be a Mother →
With Mother’s Day just around the corner, this is a really interesting and insightful report from Save the Children on women’s health and equality around the world, and country comparisons between life expectancy in children. It’s so sad to me that there’s so much inequality in the world. In Afghanistan, the risk of dying of pregnancy or childbirth related causes is 1 in...

Got some baby Converse from Andrew’s parents today, and they are so cute and tiny. My team at work did a collective “awww” when I whipped open the box at work. Even the box they came in is like a little mini-me version. We did a little comparison at home. The shoe on the left is Baby’s, and the shoe on the right is mine. I can’t wait to see our kid in them.
