So proud of herself. She would stand here doing this for hours at a time if we let her.

Two scoops of cute to brighten your Monday! There’s just something about a tiny waffle-cone bum that makes me smile. I am loving this little outfit. It’s definitely supposed to be a pair of pajamas, but Rosie’s rocking it with a long-sleeve pink onesie underneath for a lazy day around the house and a nice walk in the sun with the dog later.  And… she’s done with...

Dear Rosie, It’s spring. Daffodils are everywhere here, thousands of bright spots on the sides of the motorway, the garden, on our walks with Southpaw. And you are growing and changing so quickly, baby girl. I read each month about your development—today, an email to my inbox about my 8-month-old. “May be pulling up to standing….May be saying sounds that form...

Pancake breakfast! I made one with a delicious “R” on it for babycakes. (I also made one in the shape of a paw for the dog with the leftover batter—what can I say? We like creative pancakes in this house.) My mom used to make us pancakes with our initials in them when we were little, so it was almost strange to do it for my own baby, my mom standing in the kitchen doorway...

Some day, once Rosemary is over whoever the Justin Bieber of her pre-teen days happens to be, she’ll thank us for this.

Eating is so fun when you’re a baby. We had pasta and salad tonight, so Rosie got quite an assortment of different foods. When we were done, I took the leftover spaghetti and plopped it on her tray to see what she would do. She had the best time with it…pulling it apart, smooshing it, throwing it, sucking on handfuls of it. Then there’s clean-up. Do you see the floor? The...

Something about these jammies makes Rosie look more grown-up. Maybe because they are more form-fitting on her little bod. I’m not sure. But she’s certainly a cutie!

We spent last night in Athens, at a hotel with a huge, pillowy bed and an amazing shower. Rosie had a fantastic time rolling around and giggling. Back in England now, with a tired baby who zonked out at 7:30 p.m. Love these two with my whole heart.

Santorini
Mornings in Santorini (in March) are cold and foggy. Usually, we slept in and didn’t leave the house until afternoon. Our landlady, Dina, who has got to be in her 80s, would bring us strange food over and sing Greek songs to Rosemary. “Good mama and good Baba!” was pretty much her only English. One day, we came home and she had built a pillow fort in our...

“Just remember this when you want your first car!”
– Overheard Andrew say this to Rosemary while changing her diaper. She was laughing and kicking her legs so much that he couldn’t get her clothes back on, and was apparently frustrated.

Driving through Akrotiri on our way to the red sand beach today, we saw a playground. This was Rosie’s first time on the swings. She was laughing like crazy. She sort of loved it.

I lowered Rosie’s crib this morning. She’s about to start sleeping in more of a cage a few inches off the floor than a crib. I thought it would be safer. I’ve spent several sleepless nights getting up to check on her frequently, afraid she was going to fall out of the crib at its old level. She is getting to be quite mobile, but usually when she’s on her back,...
