On Thursday, I woke up with a headache. By early afternoon, I was frantically unlatching a baby from my breast and trying to quickly lay her down so I could run to the bathroom to puke. I didn’t make it, and our wood floor was casualty (twice…before I wised up and started carrying around a large mixing bowl in addition to a clingy baby). Every time Rosemary sees that green bowl,...

Dear Anthea, Happy one-month birthday. I can’t believe it’s already been that long since your arrival. At the same time, it feels like you have been part of our family for ages. I cannot imagine life without you. This month we saw your first outing (a trip to the pediatrician), your first bath (you love floating in the big tub on top of my arm and staring at the blue tiles),...

Three weeks old. Just three weeks ago today, Anthea was brand new. Already, she has changed and grown and I can see glimmers of the little person she will become. Cheeks and lips and perceptive eyes that quietly stare at windows and patterns on the sofa pillows. And arms and legs that already want to go places.  A lot of the past few weeks have been a bit hazy. Survival mode, you might...

I was feeling ambitious this morning. We got a Kitchenaid stand mixer as a wedding gift in 2007, and I had never even taken it out of the box! This included hauling it to England and back, too (and I couldn’t even use it there because of the voltage differences, duh). So, today I decided to open it and make chocolate chip cookies with my little helper. It’s so funny to bake or...

Stupid Things People Say (Another Reason I Avoid...
1) “Ooh..Are they twins?!” 2) “Wow, you’ve been busy!” 3) “Two, huh? Are you done? Did you get your tubes tied?” 4) “Both girls? I bet you wish one was a boy!” 5) “I have a daughter…she’s 27 now and a real bitch. We haven’t talked in five years.” 6) “Only two weeks old?! Should she even be out of...

Dear Anthea, My sweet baby, you’re two weeks old today! You are such a delight. You and your sister are so different, and you are so special to us. Already, you are growing and changing. You are a tall kiddo—your long toes and skinny legs are already too long for a lot of newborn-sized pajamas. Your cheeks are getting chubbier by the day, and you are already determinedly holding your head...

Rosemary’s hair is getting a little crazy. She’s got a wild mullet that just flies everywhere. She’s slowly warming up to having clips in her hair to contain it. I had quite a few in mine yesterday afternoon, as well, which must have made these seem pretty cool. Oh, and turns out, the more clips the better.

Rag and Bone Bindery
I am totally lusting after these sweet baby books by Rag and Bone Bindery…I saw them at Fireworks at the mall and fell in love with the handmade feel and page options. And look at all of the cool covers! I haven’t gotten Anthea a baby book yet, but I need to, and I’m seriously considering one of these. The $68 price tag seems a bit steep…but you only ever have one...
