I told you about Rosie being too skinny a while back. I’ve tried to incorporate higher calorie items into her menu, but she is still pretty stuck on her faves. Here’s her typical day of eating….this is what she’ll actually eat, not the entirety of things I will offer.
Breakfast: Whole-grain waffle with butter and jam, poached egg, Cheerios with whole milk, 4 oz of fortified OJ mixed with 4 oz water. I can also swap out the waffle for French toast/raisin toast/pancake and she will eat it.
Snack: Raisins, Pirate’s Booty, dry cereal or banana or muffin. Or some combo of the above. Some whole milk.
Lunch: Macaroni and cheese (made with butter and half/half) and cantaloupe chunks with 8 oz of whole milk. Or Trader Joe’s organic spaghetti o’s and fruit cocktail or some kind of veggie.
Snack: Ritz Chips or peanut butter on crackers, some whole milk
Dinner: Whatever we’re eating, which usually doesn’t go down very well. Steamed peas or corn with butter and grated cheese will usually be eaten. Whole milk or fruit/veggie juice. She really prefers pasta or Chipotle, which obviously can’t always be the choice, haha.
Dessert: Yogurt, ice cream, or some kind of muffin (not every night, and sort of dependent on how much she’s eaten that day)
So that is it. That is pretty much the max I can ever get in her, and it usually just depends. Sometimes she will not eat much at lunch, but do a larger snack or eat more at dinner. It seems pretty good to me. She usually eats a ton at breakfast and her snack in the late morning, and it’s all downhill from there. She is not too keen on smoothies or Carnation instant breakfast right now, but I’m going to try some more smoothies. I do offer more protein-rich things, like fake chicken nuggets, soy lunch meats (she’ll eat the turkey and baloney on occasion), beans, cheese chunks, but they are neglected like the plague. She also has a weird variety of foods she’ll eat, like olives, pickles, salt and vinegar potato chips, and other curiosities.
So…that’s what we’re doing at the moment. She also usually refuses to wear a bib now, and eats with adult utensils often. She will not usually let me feed her bites either. It must be done all by herself. It’s crazy times.
